Valentine's ideas

As we’re the Pink Rose Valentine’s Appeal, we thought we would provide you with the definitive source of Valentine’s stories and experiences. To get the ball rolling, we asked a wide cross section of the Pink Rose Valentine’s Appeal community for some of their favourite anecdotes, both real and imagined.

So...explore away and please email us with any ideas for Valentine’s celebrations that you’d like to share.

My perfect Valentine’s Day

“Probably being whisked away on a trip somewhere away from it all!”

“A man to make me a romantic meal and a gift of jewellery.”

“Flowers delivered to work and breakfast in bed together.”

“Roses in bed in the morning, special texts in the day and a lovely meal at night - intimate home cooked rather than a busy restaurant!”

“A day free from most of the emotional, sentimental stuff which is is so often inescapable!”

“A meal with my boyfriend in a nice restaurant - probably Italian and some nice wine. Gifts wise, just some red roses would be lovely! “

“A meaningful surprise that does not necessarily have to be expensive: a bath with candles
and 'products'; a hairdressing appointment; a picnic; an evening at home with DVD, chocolate and champagne; breakfast somewhere; a bunch of flowers; going somewhere together.”

“Something simple, but surprising. Maybe some shoes or perhaps just some bedroom gymnastics!”

“A trip down Soho way.”

“A lovely hand made card and tiny treat. (A big dinner would be a bonus!)“

“A nice take away meal at home away from the busy overpriced Valentine's restaurants. A good bottle of wine and a romantic film.”

“Being taken on Eurostar to Paris to eat in a typical French bistro with tonnes of rose. Or to the Alps to ski for a long weekend, more rose on the slopes and log fires in the evening. I heard about a 'romantic' treasure hunt, you follow the rose petals to find notes around the house/garden and a final gift. Cheesy gifts are great for girls, like a CD of favourite tunes or a giant card delivered to work!”

“My most romantic ever was a book of poems the most practical was a green house – but that was the best!”

My plans for next Valentine’s

“Cooking him dinner and maybe getting a small gift.”

“I'm going to make him Sushi and wear something sexy!! Also, make him cookies with cookie
cutters and spell out I LOVE YOU!”

“We will probably go out for a meal - we don’t do lots as we love each other all through the year!”

“A cute card, nice breakfast and a gift (nothing specifically Valentine's - probably a CD).”

“In the same manner that he is treated for the other 364 days!”

“A card probably! he doesn't think we should waste money on presents!”

“Indulgence! Cook the food he likes; have good wine and chocolate.”

“A bottle of wine called 'Ladera Verde', cheap as sin, but the first we shared on our first date.”

“Card and chocolates. Maybe a special bottle of wine or a little gadget. Not more than about £30 in total.”

“I’m hoping to go on a romantic 'barging' weekend or I might get him a flight in a spitfire. Failing that I'll buy him some new pants.”

“Dinner!”

My most romantic message for a Valentine’s card

“I love you!”

“Plain and simple, I love you!”

“I love you forever.”

“I'm so happy we have found each other and get to spend the rest of our lives together.”

“I love you everyday not just today.”

“I love you more than I thought I could ever love anyone and never want to be without you.”

“It took us all our lives to find each other. It will take all our lives to love each other.”

“It must be witty. The most important thing however (as learnt from my Dangerous Book for Boys) is to always sign it with a '?’”

“Roses are red, violets are blue, I don't know what I have done to deserve you . . . I could do so much better.”

“You are the love of my life. Now, since when we met and forever. All my love.”

“Thank you for helping me be the best person I can be and making me so happy. I love you bigger than the sky!”

“Just a kiss and a hug xxxooo – then I would know who it is from.”

My poetry ideas for my Valentine

“You're the one that I want ... oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh!”

“Topical to you, yet nostalgic enough to be romantic. Or just nick some lyrics from their favourite song!”

“They say fish have a short memory . . . I wish I did, especially just before the boredom sets in.”

“The lyrics from Livin’ on a Prayer!”

My most moving or funny Valentine’s story ever

“Anything that a man does for a woman that is original and without clichés!”

“Being proposed to at the Eiffel tower when he was afraid of heights!”

“I heard this in a salon. One of the beautician's clients was an elderly lady who had recently been reunited with a long lost love. They had been together after the war but he had epilepsy so the lady's parents wouldn't let her marry him. So they had to break up and they both went their separate ways. They married other people and had families of their own. Then when he was around the age of 70 and his wife had died he remembered his first love and set about finding her. He lived in Australia but he traced her to Cambridge and they rekindled their romance. The lady said they were more in love than ever before. The ironic thing was that one of the lady's sons ending up having epilepsy.”

“Probably being whisked away on a surprise short break somewhere romantic like Venice and being proposed to.”

“It was our first serious 'date' . . . I was three hours late because I couldn't find a car park. He waited . . . we're marrying.”

“A whole crowd of single acquaintances from university put their names in a hat to find their Valentine’s date for the evening. They would get their location and had to arrive with a banana so they could be recognised. One girl was paired with a Swedish mathematician who was so tight he didn't even buy her a drink - she ended up being chatted up by some rugby boys who thought eating the banana with its skin still on would impress her. Everyone was a winner at the end of the day as they all met up after their dates, so they could find someone else if their date hadn't worked out! Funnily enough, about 80% of the dates did end with some form of snoggage!”
